The next heat wave of the summer is just around the corner. By the middle of the week, it should be “horrible.” Now everyone in Vienna is wondering what will happen next …
Temperatures are already starting to rise today, and eastern Austria, in particular, is heading for another heatwave. This will last about a week, confirms Ariane Pfleger, meteorologist at Geosphere/ZAMG).
However, according to Pfleger, the heat will still feel good up to and including Monday compared to what comes afterward: from Tuesday, it will be “horrible,” with oppressive sultriness and tropical nights, with Thursday as the peak. A cold weather front will only return to average August temperatures on Friday. The chance that it could be the last of the summer makes the heatwave more bearable. The European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts predicts that temperatures in eastern Austria from the end of August to mid-September will only be one to two degrees above the average temperatures for the corresponding periods.
However, Pfleger warns against placing too much hope in long-term forecasts. In Central Europe, the weather can take unpredictable turns at any time. Due to climate change, “every September is now good for temperatures above 30 degrees.”
